[0:00] Psalm 85, we'll be reading the first six verses. This is yet again the word of the Lord to us.
[0:11] ! Restore us again, O God, our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us.
[0:35] Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? Will you not revive us again that your people may rejoice in you?
[0:48] We thank you for your prayers for me this week. It will be a tremendous encouragement on Wednesday and Thursday as I get up to preach to know that you have sought the Lord's grace, and I know that when you do, He sends grace to help in times of need.
[1:05] So thank you for that. Now, living here in northern Indiana, one of the perks that we have is every spring, we get to witness new life springing up all around us.
[1:18] The whole of creation seems to be brimming with new life after a long, dreary winter. When God sends His Spirit and renews the face of the earth, Psalm 104, 30.
[1:32] And we see this same sort of thing happening in our physical bodies, don't we? We get tired and weary, worn out. Oh, but a good night's sleep does a lot to perk us up in the morning.
[1:46] Some of us start to drag in the afternoon. But by a power nap, we're revived and ready to finish the day. Food and water have the same reviving effects upon the body.
[2:00] Samson in Judges 15 was attacked by the Philistines. And the Spirit of the Lord came upon him in power, and he grabbed the jawbone of a donkey, and he slew a thousand Philistines.
[2:11] And afterwards, the Bible says he was very thirsty and worn out. Well, you can imagine killing a thousand Philistines, why he was thirsty and worn out.
[2:22] And he cried to the Lord, you have given your servant this great victory. Must I now die of thirst? Then God opened up a hollow place, and water came out of it.
[2:35] When Samson drank, his strength returned, and he revived. Again, the reviving effect of water upon the body. Now, just as the creation outside and our bodies need reviving, so our souls need reviving.
[2:55] We get spiritually tired and weary. We get sluggish and lethargic toward the things of God, and indeed toward God himself.
[3:07] What do we need? We need reviving, fresh life from God for our souls. Now, David found it to be so in his own life.
[3:19] And so, over and over, he has found his soul revived through the Word of God. Now, that's another reason why David, in Psalm 119, says, Seven times a day, I praise you for your righteous loss.
[3:38] Why? Because they revive me. They revive me. Now, we're going to look at two texts this morning. We're in Psalm 119. And I want to begin in verse 93.
[3:51] This chapter, longest chapter in the Bible, 119.93.
[4:05] And the text says, I will never forget your precepts, because by them you have revived me. I will not forget your precepts, for by them you've revived me.
[4:20] Now, a quick timeout, because the word revive may not be in your translation. The Hebrew verb, heya, is used 11 times in this chapter.
[4:31] And it's variously translated by different versions. Not because they were looking at different manuscripts, as we learned in Sunday school. They're all looking at the same word, heya. But the NIV translates it, preserved my life.
[4:46] The ESV says, by them you have given me life. The NAS says, by them you have revived me. And the King James translates, by them you have quickened me.
[4:59] And they translate it the same way, all 11 times. Now, that word does have a bit of a range of meaning. And we can understand when David was in great physical danger, why it might be translated, preserve my life.
[5:16] Keep me alive. But even when he's in danger, our souls can get depleted with the fear and anxiety. And so he's still praying, revive my life.
[5:28] Both inwardly and outwardly, preserve my life. So as we come to verse 93, I think the word revive, quicken, is the better translation.
[5:40] I will never forget your precepts, for by them you revive me. So David could look back and remember those times past when he was feeling low, losing heart, faith drooping, hope fading, little sense of God's presence and power in his life.
[6:00] You know, long trials that just go on and on do have a way of wearing us down. To where we feel dull and cold and doubting and fearful.
[6:16] And David's was no brief trial. But over 12 years, he's running and hiding from Saul and his whole army who were hunting him down to kill him. He had had so many close calls when only by the skin of his teeth did he escape from death.
[6:33] And it brought him so low that at one point he's saying to himself, surely one of these times, one of these days, he's going to find me and kill me. It's only a matter of time.
[6:46] Despondent, despairing, fearing for his life, hiding in the desert of Ziph. He hears that Saul has come out into the desert to take his life. And into that doubting, fearful darkness came the life-giving word of God.
[7:03] King Saul's own son, Jonathan, went to David and the scriptures say he helped him to find his strength in God. How did he do that?
[7:13] He did so by reminding him of the word of God when years earlier as a boy, David had been anointed by Samuel to be the next king of Israel.
[7:26] That was an enacted promise of God when the oil was poured on him. You will be Israel's next king. And God's word never fails.
[7:36] It only ripens with age and gets closer to fulfillment. And so Jonathan reminds David, don't be afraid, he said. My father Saul will not lay a hand on you.
[7:49] You will be king over Israel. It's all going to happen just as God said it would. And with that reminder of God's word, new life and strength were poured into David's soul.
[8:03] He was refreshed, his faith renewed, his hope and joy returned. And with fresh expectation of help from God who was his refuge and his strength.
[8:16] I will never forget your precepts. For by them you have revived me. David remembered. Notice though it says, by them you have revived me.
[8:28] It was not the bare word of God alone that revived him. We all know what it is to sit before the word of God. And there it is on the printed page. And our hearts are still remain cold and dull and unresponsive to the word.
[8:45] We need more than just the word. We need what David cries for over and over in the psalm. For the teacher to teach him. Teach me your word.
[8:55] I have your word, but I also need you to teach me. So that the word comes in more than word. But with power, with the spirit, with deep assurance. And so, by them you have revived me.
[9:14] It wasn't just Jonathan that revived me. No, Jonathan was the instrument that brought the word of God to David. And the Lord used that word to revive David.
[9:26] So, believers. There's something reviving. Life-giving about this book as God brings it to us.
[9:37] Jesus says in John 6, 63. The words I have spoken to you. They are spirit. And they are life. Life. Life-giving. Living. Hebrews 4, 12.
[9:50] The word of God is living and active. It's not a dead letter. It's alive. And it does things. It knows me.
[10:01] It has legs that run after me. And hands that grab me. It's sharper than a two-edged sword. And pierces me. It gets below the surface.
[10:12] Right into my inner being where it judges every thought and intent. Motivation of my heart. It exposes me. It shows me what I am. It lays me bare before the eyes of him to whom I must give account.
[10:26] It's a living word. Not only in its searching and convicting power. But also in its comforting and reviving power. However, Paul can tell the Thessalonians, it's the word of God that is at work within you.
[10:40] It is working in you. How often we come weary to the word. And we leave revived in our souls.
[10:52] Spiritually exhausted. Feeling alone. Fearful. Hopeless. Before our troubles. And the spirit of God brings the word of God home to our hearts.
[11:02] Christ. He shows us Christ. He reads with us the holy scriptures and reveals our risen Lord, we sing. And beholding the glory of God in the face of Christ.
[11:16] Nothing looks the same anywhere. Our paralyzing fears lose their grip. And the knot in our stomach is untied and relaxed.
[11:27] And our cold dying embers of love are blown into a flame again. For we've seen the king in his glory. And nothing looks the same with the king in view.
[11:40] And then did our hearts burn within us when he opened to us the life-giving scriptures. This living word of God.
[11:51] I will never forget your precepts. For by them you revive me. The very first psalm in our Psalter celebrates the life-giving influence of God's word.
[12:05] You're familiar with it. Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. Nor stand in the way of sinners. Nor sit in the seat of the scornful.
[12:16] That's not where he gets his information. No, his delight is in the law of the Lord. And on his law he meditates day and night. And therefore he will be like a tree.
[12:27] Planted by the rivers of water. That brings forth its fruit in its season. Its leaf also will not wither. And whatever he does. Prospers.
[12:41] You see, while other people are withering around him. Drying up, blown away. Like chaff. He keeps his roots soaking in the refreshing riverbed of God's word.
[12:53] So when drought comes and other trees around him are withering and dying. He continues to flourish. Bearing good fruit. God's word.
[13:04] The continual source of refreshment. Reviving his soul. Keeping him well satisfied and flourishing. And when he does get weary.
[13:14] He finds this word reviving him. Giving him new strength. New zeal. New love for the Savior. So brothers and sisters, the word of God is the life-giving instrument to revive you.
[13:31] It's those defibrillator paddles that give your heart a jolt of energy. And bring you back to life. Revive you. Relive you.
[13:42] It's the drink from a brook beside the way. That causes you to then lift up your head with new strength and courage.
[13:56] What do you know of this reviving effect of the word of God? David knew it and praises God for it. I'll never forget your precepts. Because by them you have revived me.
[14:10] Now, there are, I'm sure, are passages of scripture that you can never forget. And you can't forget them because by them the Lord has revived you.
[14:25] I sometimes just put in the margin of my Bible a date or a place. That's where the Lord met me and revived me with that scripture verse.
[14:40] You have them. Sometimes they're so great that you make them your life verse. Christians have life verses. You know, you don't only have to have one.
[14:51] There's no rule that says you can only have one. I trust you have many. There are verses of scripture where you can say, I won't forget that. I still remember how low I was and how high he came and lifted me.
[15:07] Precepts and promises. It came and revived David. You can read. They're found all over through the Psalms. He writes about them, doesn't he?
[15:17] Yes. I was low. I remember that God is an ever-present help for me.
[15:28] He's always with me. Therefore, I will not fear. I remember when I was fearing. I remembered his presence. Those verses, you see, became precious. Those precepts.
[15:39] Charles Spurgeon, at age 22, had people coming from all over London to hear him preach. And the crowds packed in and outgrew one building after another. So the deacons decided to rent the Surrey Garden Music Hall.
[15:55] Its main hall and three galleries could seat 10,000 people. The word got out. And when the day finally came, people came early and packed every seat, even filling the aisles and sitting on the stairwells.
[16:13] Others were gathered around the windows, hoping outside, hoping to hear the word God preached. Thousands outside, they said.
[16:24] But troublemakers were also present that day. And during his opening prayer, someone in the gallery shouted, fire, fire.
[16:35] And then someone from below shouted, the galleries are falling. And then a third voice, the whole place is collapsing. And immediately parts of the hall were thrown into a panic.
[16:49] Rushing to the stairs, the railing gave way and plunging the railing and people to smash the people below them. Others jumped from the galleries.
[17:02] Everyone pressing toward the exits. Before it was done, it was learned that seven had died. And the 28 were in the hospital, some critically injured.
[17:13] Spurgeon went into a side room and fell to the floor, almost unconscious, under the shock of what had just happened. He remained in this broken condition, unable to do anything.
[17:26] Unable to find any comfort from God, his word. From his people. For seven or eight days. And then one day he was walking in a friend's garden.
[17:41] And the spirit brought to mind Philippians 2.9. Therefore God has highly exalted him. And given him a name that is above every name.
[17:52] And it was the thought, the verse about his savior. That was the turning point. In his soul's condition. He was revived.
[18:03] And was back in the pulpit. Only missing one Sunday. Do you think he ever forgot Philippians 2.9 to his dying day? I will never forget your precepts.
[18:16] Because by them you have revived me. You've brought me back from the pit. Such it was for Charles Spurgeon. The word of God.
[18:28] It's a life-giving instrument to revive you. I'm sure you have testimonies of it. Doing so yourself. Here. Here there's light.
[18:40] For a look at the savior. And life. More abundant and free. Life. Revive life. Abundant life. Even more than what you've already yet experienced.
[18:52] So turn your eyes upon Jesus. As he's magnified. In the scriptures. Which do revive our souls. Now some of your revivings are more memorable than others.
[19:04] I'm sure. But I trust you're experiencing the reviving ministry of God's word. An ongoing. Daily. Weekly. Thing. Because your need.
[19:15] Your need is more than occasional. For the reviving. Refreshing. Reinvigorating. Renewing. Word of God. Now the RE in all of those words.
[19:28] In revival. Reinvigorate. And so on. Reminds us of something. That the giving of life is not a one and done thing. We're brought from spiritual death to new life in Christ.
[19:39] By the new birth of the Holy Spirit. And the life giving word. Is involved in that initial gift of life. James 1.18. God chose to give us birth through the word of truth.
[19:51] 1 Peter 1.23. You have been born again. Not of perishable seed. But of imperishable. By the living and abiding word of God. And that life of God planted in the soul of man.
[20:05] Never goes out. It continues. The entire time of your life here. And into all eternity. But. Our experience of that new life in Christ.
[20:20] Waxes and wanes. It knows ups and downs. Our faith. Can grow weak. Morris Roberts. Wrote in the banner of truth magazine.
[20:34] We are leaky buckets. Can you identify with that? Yesterday's. Drink is not enough for today. I find a hole in my bucket.
[20:47] I've got a garden. It's some way from my spigot up by the house. And I can fill up a bucket. And if it's got a hole. By the time I get to the garden. It's empty. I can't water my plants. We are leaky buckets.
[20:59] That means we need refilling continually. We constantly need refreshing. Reviving. And so we need to cry.
[21:09] With the psalm that was read. Will you not revive us again. That your people may rejoice. In you. We're ever in need of this reviving ministry. Of the word.
[21:20] In the hand of the spirit. To counter the dulling. Influence of the world. The flesh. And the devil. Those things together. Sap. The vitality.
[21:31] Of our spiritual energy. Our zeal. For God. And things above. David felt his need. Of reviving. And if you've walked with Christ. For more than a month. You felt it too.
[21:42] I need reviving. Again. And again. And so David. Has tasted that reviving ministry. Of the word. And he praises God for it.
[21:54] That's what verse 93 is. But now we've seen in Psalm 119. How quickly. David. Goes back and forth. From. Praising God. For certain things. About his word.
[22:05] To praying. About certain things. So we've. We've seen so far. Haven't we. In this Psalm 119. How that David. Praises the Lord. For the way. That his word.
[22:15] Is the only safe guide. To the Father's house. Your word. Is a lamp. To my feet. And a light. To my path. And he praises God. But it's. Soon. The prayer. Going up. I'm a stranger.
[22:25] On earth. Do not hide your. Your commands. From me. Because they mark out. The way. To the Father's house. Praise. Prayer.
[22:37] We hear him. Praising God. For being his teacher. You. You. You teach me Lord. And he praises God. Even through affliction. You. You teach me. Then we hear him.
[22:50] Crying. Over and over. Teach me. Teach me. To obey your word. And I will keep it. With all my heart. So this entire. Psalm. Alternates from praise.
[23:01] And prayer. For the word of God. So here. David not only. Praises God. For his reviving word. I'll never forget. Your precepts. For by them. You have revived me. Verse 93.
[23:12] He now turns it. To petition. For God. To revive him. According to his word. Eleven times. We hear him crying. Revive me. Revive me. Revive me.
[23:24] We're going to look. At just one verse. Verse 25. Verse 25. My soul clings.
[23:35] To the dust. This is Psalm 119. Verse 25. My soul clings. To the dust. Revive me. According. To your word. He's turned from praising.
[23:49] To praying. For revival. And here we have two points. David. David's languishing. Condition. And then his prayer. Revive me. First. His languishing. Condition.
[24:01] He says. My soul clings. To the dust. And I believe. That's better than the NIV. I'm laid low. In the dust. Though it's not that far off. But here. David identifies.
[24:12] His trouble. As soul trouble. It's not just. Some physical problem. He has. He's identifying. It's his soul. That is trouble. My soul.
[24:23] Clings to the dust. Sometimes this word. Can refer to his entire life. But more often. It refers to the soul. The spirit. The heart. The inner being. Of man. And his complaint.
[24:33] About his soul. Is this. What's wrong with it? It clings to the dust. It clings to the dust. Now the word for clings. Is the same.
[24:44] Word that we often hear. In weddings. In Genesis. Chapter 2. And verse 5. For this reason. A man will leave. His father and mother. And what? Cleave.
[24:56] Cling. Be glued to. Join to. His wife. That's the word. David is using here. You stick to your wife. You stay with her.
[25:08] And David's not only laid low. In the dust. He's complaining. That his soul. Is clinging to the dust. Sticking. Cleaving. To the dust. Whatever the reason.
[25:21] Or cause. It could be physical sickness. That leaves the soul. Listless. A headache. A lack of sleep. Physical exhaustion. We are body. Soul creatures.
[25:31] And when. Our bodies are suffering. Pain. And weariness. It often affects. Our soul's condition. Or it could have been. A spiritual reason. That David's referring to.
[25:43] Some sin. Some carelessness. About what we let into. Our soul. Through our eye. Gates. Or our ear. Gates. What we feed. Our soul. Too much.
[25:53] On the earthly. Things. That spoil our appetites. For the spiritual. Things. And have a deadening. Influence. Upon our affections. For God. Lead to neglect.
[26:04] Of the means of grace. Our soul gets anemic. And lethargic. Spiritual complacency. Can set in. Where the soul. Is no longer found. Panting after God.
[26:14] Like the deer. For the water brooks. But. Just. Existing. Going through the motions. Without. Without. Any vital. Connection. To the head.
[26:26] Without drawing. Spiritual sap. From the vine. So the causes. And maladies. Of the soul. Are many. That's why. Proverbs.
[26:36] 423. Says. Above all things. Guard. The heart. The soul. Because out of it. Are the issues. Of life. But whatever the cause. David finds his soul.
[26:48] Clinging. To the dust. Like a bird. With his feet. Stuck. In the mud. Clinging. To the mud. Unable. To rise.
[26:58] To the heavens. So my soul. Feels. Earthbound. Spiritually dead. Glued. To the dust. Of the earth. Again. We may come.
[27:09] To the word of God. And stand. Before the page. With our hearts. Cold. Unable. To rise. Stuck. To the earth.
[27:19] And. Wanting. To rise. Well. David's telling. His grief. To the Lord. Isn't he? He's saying. It's not. The way. I want it. To be. Lord. Dear Lord.
[27:29] And shall I ever. Live. At this poor. Dying rate. My love. To thee. So cold. And thine. To me. So great. It's not. The way. I want it.
[27:40] Lord. My soul. Is clinging. To the earth. Do you ever. Complain. To the Lord. About. The coldness. Of your heart. You ought to. David does. And here.
[27:51] I would say. It is prescriptive. For us. Not just. Describing. So. It is good. For us. To complain. To the Lord. Not. Blaming him. For this condition. But blaming.
[28:02] Ourselves. And saying. Lord. It's not. The way. I want it. To be. We complain. Of ourselves. Before the Lord. So.
[28:14] Having told. The Lord. His woeful condition. My soul. Is clinging. To the dust. David sees. Only one. Remedy. And it's to cry. To God. Revive me. You can revive.
[28:25] You can get me. Off the ground. You can get me. Soaring again. Into things above. Quicken me. With fresh life. I might hold.
[28:36] Sweet communion. With you. Find my whole being. Refreshed in you. Joseph Hart. Puts these words. Into our mouths. Cheer my desponding heart. Revive my drooping faith.
[28:47] My doubts and fears remove. And kindle in my breast. The flames of never dying love. Tis thine to cleanse the heart. To sanctify the soul. To pour fresh life.
[28:58] In every part. And new create the whole. That's what I want. Every grace. Every virtue. Every fruit of the spirit. Every Christ like. Behavior.
[29:08] You're an attitude. I want you to pour fresh life. Into the whole of my being. Not just a part. But the whole of me. Revive me. Again.
[29:22] And then he says. Do it according to your word. Revive me. According to the. To your word. And that's an oft. Repeated phrase. In this psalm. It's found seven times.
[29:33] In the chapter. And there's three ways. To take this phrase. And they're all taught. In this chapter. And are true. Derek Kidner. In his commentary. Unpacks the three meanings.
[29:44] For this phrase. When we see. Revive me. According to your word. First of all. It can mean. Revive me. By means. Of your word. And that's what we've been seeing.
[29:55] In Psalm. One nineteen ninety three. Because. By your precepts. Through the instrumentality. Of your precepts. You are reviving me. You revive me.
[30:06] So he's praying. Use your word. As the instrument. To revive me. That's the first way. It's used. By means of your word. Secondly. It can be. According to your word.
[30:16] Can mean. According to your word. As the end. For which. I am revived. The goal. The purpose. For which I am revived. I want to be revived. So that I obey your word.
[30:28] So that I walk in your ways. Verse 88. Says. Revive me. According to your love. And I will obey. The statutes. Of your mouth. You see. That's the end. The goal.
[30:38] Of my reviving. That I will obey. The statutes. Of your mouth. But thirdly. Remind. Revive me. According to your word. Can mean.
[30:49] According to your word. Of promise. Revive me. Lord. Because. Your word. Has said you would. That's what he.
[31:01] Prays in. Verse 154. Revive me. According to your promise. You said you would. And indeed. David. Point to Psalm 146.
[31:12] Eight. The Lord lifts up. Those who are bowed down. That's his promise. So revive me. As you promised to do. Spurgeon says. It's a grand thing.
[31:23] To see a believer. In the dust. Yet. Pleading. The promise. You see. David knows. There's a promise. For a revived. A promise. Of a revived life.
[31:34] Where a soul like his. Could be refreshed. And on the basis. Of that promise. He hangs his prayer. Revive me Lord. According to your word.
[31:46] Of promise. How God loves to hear. His own promises. Brought back to him. When we're praying. Lord you said. Now do. As you've said.
[31:57] And think of it. David didn't have much of a Bible. Full of promises. Did he? Just the Pentateuch. And a few other books.
[32:08] And now. We have the whole. Of God's word. Many. Great. And precious promises. To bring before him. And say. Lord you said. Now. Now revive me. According to your promise.
[32:21] One of. The promises. That God has given us. In his word. Of reviving us. Is found in Isaiah 57. 15. And I trust. To be preaching this. This week.
[32:32] In Pennsylvania. Isaiah 57. 15. This is what the high. And lofty one says. He who lives forever. Whose name is holy.
[32:42] I live in a high. And holy place. But also with him. Who is. Lowly. And contrite in heart. To revive. The spirit of the lowly. And to revive.
[32:53] The heart. Of the contrite. The high and holy one. Lives in a high and holy place. Nothing surprising about that. That's where he belongs.
[33:03] He is high. He lives in a high and holy place. But that's not his only dwelling place. Also with him. Who is contrite and lowly.
[33:15] Now we're asking. What is someone like that. Doing in a place. Like this. Why would the high and holy one.
[33:28] Deign to live with me. Who is contrite and lowly. In heart. Psalm 113. 5 and 8. Who is like the Lord our God.
[33:40] The one who sits enthroned on high. Who stoops down to look on the heavens. As well as the earth. He raises the poor from the dust.
[33:52] And lifts the needy. From the ash heap. He seats them with princes. Of their people. He is high. But he stoops low. And he stoops low.
[34:03] To raise us high. And isn't that the whole gospel. Of why Jesus Christ came. He who was high. Sharing equality.
[34:14] With the father's glory. And he comes. And he humbles himself. He stoops so low. Even to the death of the cross. To what end? To lift us poor and needy ones.
[34:27] High. Yes to the highest heaven. To the very dwelling place. Of God. So back to Isaiah 57. 15.
[34:38] Why does the high and holy one. Dwell with him who is contrite and lowly. He tells us. To revive the spirit of the lowly. And to revive the heart of the contrite.
[34:48] And I say to you humble believers. Is that not encouraging? To know that the very reason. That the high and holy one dwells in you. Is for the express purpose of reviving you.
[35:00] Reviving that. That weariness. Of soul. That slumber. That comes over us. And it's a personal thing.
[35:12] He speaks of him. To revive him. It's not just them as a whole. It's an individual thing. He sees your heart. He sees your weariness. He sees that cry of the heart.
[35:23] A humble heart. That's not resting in your own strength. Your own righteousness. But turning away and crying. Revive me. Give me life. And he delights to revive.
[35:34] The contrite and lowly. In spirit. Our Lord Jesus also uses the spirit. The singular personal pronoun. In his promise of the Holy Spirit's work of reviving.
[35:45] In John 7. 37 to 39. On the last and greatest day of the feast. Jesus stood and said in a loud voice. If anyone. Anyone.
[35:57] Is thirsty. Let him come to me. Let him. Individual. Come to me. And whoever. Whoever.
[36:09] Believes in me. As the scripture has said. Streams of living water. Will flow. From within him. And John goes on.
[36:19] To explain Jesus words. By saying. By this. He meant the spirit. You see. There's the high and holy spirit. That comes to dwell in us. To revive us.
[36:32] And. Streams of living water. Flowing not from outside us. But from within us. By the spirit. Reviving and refreshing. Our souls.
[36:45] The reason the word of God. Is a life giving instrument. That revives us. Is because it directs us to him. In whom alone. There is life. God the father.
[36:55] God the son. God the holy spirit. All life is in God. All life is in God's son. So it's only in coming to Christ. And believing on him. That you find.
[37:07] These soul refreshing streams. Of living water. Springing up within you. He's come to magnify Christ. That we might find true life.
[37:18] In him. Abundant life. Yes. Even more abundant life. Than what we've. Yet experienced. So John. Is able to say. This is the testimony. God has given us.
[37:30] Listen carefully. This is God's testimony. About his son. He says. That God has given us. Eternal life. And this life.
[37:40] Is in his son. He who has the son. Has life. And he who has not the son of God. Has not life. So if you're not saved. You need to come to this.
[37:51] Christ. As a beggar. With nothing good to say. For yourself. And cast yourself on him. As a. Contrite. Lowly. In spirit. Man or woman. Boy or girl. Ask him.
[38:03] To magnify his grace. By saving you. And he will. He will give you his spirit. And he will revive you.
[38:14] Give you life. Eternal. Abundant. And believers. If your soul. Is clinging to the dust. Weighed down. With earthly cares. Dried up.
[38:24] And needing refreshment. Here you have it. And ever ready. Ever present. Streams of water. In the desert. To revive your soul. To refresh you. You. Even in your.
[38:39] Afflictions. David says. I will not forget your word. For by them. You have revived me. In verse 50. He says. My comfort. In my affliction. Is this. That your promise.
[38:50] Revives me. We saw affliction. Last week. God is teaching us. Through affliction. Oh. How our souls. Get weary. Under affliction. I not had your word.
[39:02] Oh Lord. I would have perished. In my affliction. But your word. Has revived me. Kept me going. Upheld me. In my. Affliction. Praise God.
[39:14] It's in the reviving word of God. That the living. God. Meets us. And gives us. The life. That we need. Come with honesty.
[39:25] To the Lord. And tell him. You're not satisfied. And. Tell him. Your soul. Clings to the dust. And cry out. To be revived. According to his word. Let's pray once more.
[39:42] Father. We are open books. Before you. You search our hearts. And know our thoughts. You see how. Each one of us. Need to be revived. Some need. Spiritual life.
[39:53] For the first time. They've been. Living. A living death. They need to know. That abundant life. That is in Christ. Draw them. This day. To the Savior.
[40:05] And every other. One who's here. Find that. We too. Need to be revived. We have sung. Of how. Weak. Our faith. And love. For you is.
[40:16] How. Easily. We. Diminish. Sin. Exalt. Ourselves. We've confessed. These things to you. Now Lord. Look upon us. In our weakness.
[40:28] And come and revive us. According to your word. Will you not. Revive us again. That your people. May rejoice. In you. And that that fresh joy.
[40:38] Would be the strength. Of our hearts. With which to serve you. We ask it in Jesus name. And for his praise. Amen. Thank you.
