The Simple Gospel

John, chapter 6. Let's read from verse 25. When they found him, when they found Jesus on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when did you come here?

Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, truly, I say to you, you were seeking me, not because you saw signs or miracles, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.

Jesus had already fed the multitude by multiplying fish and bread, and now they want to find him again and have more.

Do not labor or do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for in him God the Father has set his seal.

It says our Lord. Then they said to him, What must we do to be doing the works of God? This is the part that we are concerned with this morning.

They said to Jesus, What must we do to be doing the works of God? And Jesus answered them, This is the work of God that you believe in him whom he has sent.

We listen to these words of our Lord.

They are addressed to people who need salvation, who think they have salvation. These Jews come to him thinking that they are in the kingdom.

They just need some teaching about how to make sure they get it all right all the way till the end. And Jesus has a very important word for them. Now, I've come here to speak to you about your salvation.

I've come from God's call and from his authority. The scripture says that preachers have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel so that we speak in Christ in the sight of God who tests our hearts.

When I leave this place and one day when I stand before God, I will answer for what I've said before you. He will test my heart. Did I speak to you?

Did I convey to you his message? Could you hear the Lord through me? But you will answer to God for this day also. We speak in Christ.

I speak to you in Christ in union with the living and risen Lord. I speak to you, young person who's looking at me. Yes, to you. The Lord Jesus has a message today.

I want to speak to you about your salvation. About being saved today. Today. Today. Okay.

We have three things. Number one. You must understand that there is only one thing you need to do to be saved. Little girl.

One thing you need to be do to do to be saved today. To come into God's family. To be forgiven forever.

And to be his. Young man. One thing. Read the verse with me. In verse 28. Verse 28. The question they ask him.

The Jews question. Is what must we do to be doing the works of God? Now let's try to understand that question.

What are they talking about? What do they think they need to be doing? They use a plural. They talk about works. Many works.

They think they need to be doing things. Deeds. Actions. Good things. And they say. What must we be doing. To be doing. The works of God.

What are the works of God? They're talking about the works that we do. That God. Demands of us. So that we'll be right with him.

We know that because Jesus. When he answers. He brings it down to only one. Now hold it. After you get saved. There's more than one thing to do.

Isn't there? There's lots of works. Aren't there? God gives us lots of commands. But Jesus isn't talking about that. Because he knew that the Jews were talking about.

What sort of works do we do? What sort of things have we got to do? To be saved. To be right with God. So that's the question. Jesus had just been saying to them.

Don't work for the food that perishes. Don't spend all your time worrying about things. That don't last. But work. Fix your mind on getting to heaven.

On the eternal life. On the food that endures to eternal life. Okay. So we understand the question. What must you do. To be right with God. And have eternal life.

Jesus' answer is unexpected. Because they're wanting several works. Where you got to do this.

And you got to be like this. And you got to have a good heart. And you got to see God. And you got to pray. And you got to obey. And all of this. They're expecting an answer like that. And look at what Jesus says.

In verse 29. Jesus answered them. This is the work of God. Singular. One. That you believe in him who is sent.

This is the thing God is asking of you. Young person. Older person. Some of you. You know you're not saved today. Don't you? You know. In your heart of hearts.

When you're honest. That you've come in here. And when we sang a moment ago. Long my imprisoned spirit lay. Fast bound in death and sin. And nature's not.

You know that's you. You know you don't know the Lord. You know that if Christ comes tomorrow. You know that if that return.

That glorious return of the Son of Man happens. That you're not in the family. Now the Jews did have one thing right. When they asked the question.

They knew that God expects works of us. God expects something of you. Did you know that? God is not a God who. You give me as much as you want.

Or as much as you can. That's fine. He is the great and almighty creator. He is the great God. Everything is his. You're his. And he expects something of you.

Your life. You know how I know? Because there's going to be a judgment coming. And God says. You owe me. Did you give me?

What I required. What I required of you. The Bible says. John one day. The apostle. Saw a great white throne. And a vision.

He saw the last day that's coming. The last judgment. You're going to be there. And he said. I saw this great white throne. And I saw him who was seated on it. And think of it guys.

Girls. Young people. And old. A great white throne. God let John see it beforehand. And him who was seated on the throne. From his presence.

Earth and heaven fled away. But there was no place found for them. It's going to be an awesome. Terrible. Amazing day. Earth and heaven are going to try to run away.

From the great and awesome presence of the living God. And they won't be able to do it. Neither will you. Well I'll be brought into the presence of that great white throne. And that God.

And then he said. And I saw. And books were opened. Books were opened. Those books contain what you did.

What you did. And men were judged by what was written in the books. God's going to judge you. Because he expects. Your life to be given to him.

Your deeds and your thoughts. The longings of your heart. To be given to him. And another book was opened. Which was called the book of life.

Because when people were judged out of those books of your deeds. Nobody passed the test. Because it says. If anyone's name was not found in the book of life. He was thrown into the lake of fire. We're all going to be there.

So I know that the Jews had one thing right. God expects something of you. And he's going to ask. Did you give me what I require?

Now Jesus' answer. Is all the more unexpected. Isn't it? At the beginning.

Yeah. When God created us. He expected us to. Do many works for him. To love him. Love the Lord your God. With all your heart. And mind. And soul. And love your neighbor as yourself.

And all of these things. But then we sinned. And got away from God. Far away. And here you are. A young person. Or older person. And you're away from God. You don't know him. You're not in that stream.

Of having done what he wanted. And now. You've got to find a way back. And Jesus says. The way back. Is not the same.

As the original way. Of all the things you were supposed to do. But it's only one thing. This is the work of God. To get back. That you believe.

In Jesus. Whom he sent. Why do people. Naturally think. That they have to do.

Lots of things. To get saved. Why do these Jews. Think that. Well it's kind of natural. Isn't it. You know.

Here. Someone in this congregation. And I know. There's probably. Someone like this today. You've started. Feeling guilty. Haven't you. You know. You're not saved.

And you know. You don't live for God. And you know. You don't love the creator. Who made you. And loves you. And you don't love him back. And you don't care. And you feel bad about it.

And you feel guilty. What's your first intuition. What do you feel like doing. Well I better start doing. The stuff I was supposed to do. At the first. Right. The first things.

God wanted us to do. At creation. To live for him. And love him. And love our neighbor. So you feel like. Well. If I got this way. Far from God. By not doing these things. Then the way back.

Is start doing them. Right. That's sort of what we all feel like. Isn't it. We're wrong. We're wrong. That's not the way back.

Like. You see. We think that. If we got in trouble. By disobeying. We can get out of trouble. By obeying. If we got.

Far from God. By not loving him. What we need to do. To get back. Is now have a heart. That loves him. We try to have a heart. That loves God. You're trying to do. All of these things.

And some people. Add a little bit of suffering. To that. I think. I'm going to get back. To God. I'm going to do. The right things. Now. And I'm going to suffer. A little bit. To pay. To pay. There was a king of France.

It was called. Louis the 14th. And he was dying. This is a true story. He was on his bed. Dying. He knew he was dying. And the priest. Came to him. Because he was a Catholic.

Like every good French man. At that time. And the priest. Said to him. Are you suffering much? And the king said.

Not very much. And that's what's troubling me. Because I want to suffer more. In order to atone for my sins.

He's about to die. And he thinks the way back to God. He's lived a terrible life. He thinks. If only I could suffer a bit. God will see and say. Okay. That's good enough.

You've paid. You see. You see a problem with that? The problem. Dear people. Is that your sin.

Is against an infinite God. And it's an infinite sin. I'm not exaggerating. This is what the Bible says. You cannot atone for your sin.

By anything you could give. It demands an infinite price. The great and living God. Gone your own way.

Turned your back. On the majestic and loving. And infinitely good God. It's an infinite sin. Infinite upon infinite. Infinite times infinite.

You can't atone. The way back. Is not all of these things. That you think you can do. What must we do. That we may work the works of God.

Jesus says. No. No. The work of God. Is that you believe on him. Whom he has sent. Now.

Let me give you a couple of illustrations. And then we'll go on. We always have this tendency. Don't you have it. To want to try to do something. And I have a feeling.

There may be someone here. Who's on the edge of salvation. And he's just clinging. To some works. That he must do. And he can't get through. Because he's refusing God's way. The one thing you must do.

The one. To get back. Is to believe. On Jesus. The Savior. But no. No. No. You want to do that. And plus this. And that. And that. And the other. And you want to give God.

A little bit. Of some contribution. For example. The prodigal son. You see him. He's been far from God. He lived a terrible life. He wakes up.

He says. I've sinned against God. And against my father. I'll go back. And I'll say to my father. Father. I've sinned against heaven. And against you. And I'm not worthy. To be called your son.

Make me one of your servants. If only you'll take me back. I'll pay. I'll pay. I'll pay. I'll suffer. And I'll just.

I'll just be one of the servants. And what happens. When he finally gets back to his dad. And tries to. Come back on those terms. You know what his dad says. His dad cuts him.

Right in the middle of a phrase. He's rehearsed it. He's going to say all this. And he says. Father. I've sinned against heaven. And you. And I'm not worthy. To be called your son.

And before he can say. Make me one of your servants. Because I'm going to pay a bit. His father cuts him right off. Doesn't want to hear it. That's Jesus' parable.

God doesn't want to hear it. And he says. Go get the. The fatted calf. And bring the ring. And bring the sandals. And put him on the boy. And he's kissing him. And he's hugging him.

And he says. No. These are not my conditions. For the way back. My condition. Is you give nothing. And I do all. And I love you. And I'll take you back. Because of my love.

Isn't that wonderful? Can you believe. That God would take you back. Like that today. Like. Right like that. Right where you are. This is the good news.

Then there's a psalm. That our brother read. Jason. He read psalm 51. And David had the same problem. David had committed adultery. With Bathsheba. He'd done something so bad.

And he says. God. If I could. If you'd accept some sacrifices. I'd give them. Because that's what I'd really like to do. Let me give you something. God. To take me back.

And. But David knows. He says. You don't want it. You don't want it. God. So we have this problem. And.

We have to understand. Why the way back. Is not all these things. That we could do. To be different. To be better. Not anything. We could do. Not anything.

That you could do. To change. Anything. About you. The way you are. Right now. Let me give you a couple of reasons. Why. It's nothing but believing.

On the one that Jesus sent. The first reason. It's too late. It's too late for you. To start. To get back to God. By doing. What's right. Now tell me.

Suppose that a man. Had killed several people. Over the last several years. A serial killer. We hear about him. Sometimes in the news. Don't we? Terrible. Awful thing. And the man comes.

To his senses. And he turns himself. Into the police. And into the court. And he comes. Even in front of a judge. On his own initiative. And he says. Look. I have killed several people.

In cold blood. I've murdered them. But I've come to my senses. And. What I want to offer you. Is. I'm not going to do it anymore. So will you let me go.

On that basis. Would that be right. You ask the person. Whose daughter he killed. If that's good enough. Is that good enough?

But that's what you're doing. With God almighty. You're saying. I have killed in my heart. I have killed you. I didn't even want you to exist. It was this.

I was murdering the living God. But I'm not going to do it anymore. So accept me back on that basis. What are we going to do.

With all that you've done against God. Your sins. No. No. No. It's not going to work. A man steals. Several million dollars. From his company.

Wow. Amazing. That we hear these things today. And he goes to his boss. And says. I realize. I really shouldn't have done that. I'm not going to steal. Anymore. Okay. You keep me.

You're going to keep me on. As your employee. That's not the way back. You can't get back that way. But that's what you've done. You have stolen from God. Years and years of your life.

Haven't you? I had. I'd stolen. Immense things. Of love. And obedience. And worship. And joy in my God. And relating to him.

And doing what he wanted me. And fulfilling his glorious. And good plan. I stole it all from God. Stole all that time. I did. I stole from God.

And you have too. Some of you. You think you're going to get back. By saying. Okay. I'm going to stop stealing now. No. You won't. Not the way back. So it's too late.

It's too late. Right now. The Tour de France. Is happening. This is a big bike race. In France. It goes. Well. At least it used to. It used to. Go around the whole country.

Take about two or three weeks. And each day. They do a hundred kilometers or so. And on these bikes. And hundreds of men. And an amazing race. But you see this one guy.

When the cameras aren't on him. And he's a little bit all by himself. He just cuts. Takes a shortcut. Cuts off about 20 kilometers of the race. And keeps on going.

You see. And they catch him. He says. I shouldn't have done that. I won't take any more shortcuts. It's too late. You see. When you take a shortcut. In the Tour de France.

You're disqualified. You see. You can't get back that way. Neither can you. All have sinned. And fall short. Of the glory of God.

The second reason. You can't get back that way. Is you're too bad. You're too late. And you're too bad. You're too bad. Not only you. But you. All your efforts.

Too much selfishness. Too much thinking of yourself. And just the fact that you don't want to go to hell. No love for God in that. It's still sin. And there's a third reason too.

Let me quote a verse on the second reason. Too bad. Isaiah says. All of our righteous deeds. All of your righteous deeds. Are like filthy rags. Do you believe that?

Do you believe that? All of your righteous deeds. By which you try to get back to God. Are like filthy rags. What are you going to do?

Before God. And the third reason. Is that. All this time you're trying to get back to God.

By something you're doing. Get a little bit better. Do this. Do that. You know what? By doing this. You're actually piling up more sins against God. Yes you are.

I'll explain how. You're refusing God's gift. As a gift. He wants to. He loves you. He wants to give you eternal life.

And reconciliation to him. Right now. As a free gift. And you. Don't want it to work that way. You're refusing the gift. Now I want to tell you something about gifts.

Have you ever had this happen? Some of you families. Your Christmas time. Your son comes home from school. And he's all happy.

He's hilarious. His good buddy gave him this fantastic Christmas gift. Really expensive. Just something he wanted. A new I something.

I pad. I phone. I don't know. Whatever. Most of these things have I in front of them now. Don't they? This fantastic gift. And he's. And. Mom and dad didn't give anything.

Didn't get anything for that kid. How do they feel? They feel good about that? They feel terrible. They don't want their kid to have gotten that gift. They scrambling out to the store as quick as they can.

To go get something for the other kid. Right? You know why that is? Because. When someone gives you something. And is really generous to you. It changes. The.

The relationship. Look how much they've given us. And look how much we've given them. And we're so self righteous. We don't like to be like that. We want to equal it out. Don't we?

We want to say. We're at least as generous as that family. Right? We don't like gifts. That are free. And. And over what we could give. Because we want to say.

No. We're at least as good as. As good as that. So some of you. You don't want to receive God's gift. Because you want to. You want to bring the relationship.

Between you and God. That equals equals. You see. And this is very sinful of you. You know. There was a lady in a church. And she heard about God's free gift. Of salvation.

For nothing. And Jesus. Jesus had done all. His gift was. Immense. And. Infinite. And amazing. Is dying for you. And you get it for nothing. And.

That's just that. You know what she said to the pastor? She said. Oh my. My. My. My. My. My. I. I. This is really scary. And he said. What a free gift is scary? He said.

Yeah. Up until now. I thought. Your relationship with God. Was a bit like paying taxes. You see. You pay. Some. And then you have some rights. Because you're a taxpayer.

Right. You can oblige. The government. To do certain things for you. You see. But now. She said. If it's all. If God has done that for me.

All of that. See. With a tax. With a taxpayer. Your. Your duties are a bit limited. You know. You can say. Well I did this. So. You know. You can't ask me to do anything.

I got rights too. But if God has saved you. Free. And infinite. You're. You're. You're. You owe him. It's infinite. It doesn't ever stop. Jesus bought you out.

You're his. And there's no limit. To what he. Can ask of you. He wants your whole heart. Your whole life. You can never pay him back. For what he's done. But actually.

That's a wonderful kind of. That's a wonderful kind of. Tie of love. Never pay him back. For. He doesn't want me to pay him back. Doesn't want me to pay him back. We don't like that doing.

That's called self-righteousness. And God hates it. Doesn't want us to be like that. Doesn't want us to lift ourselves up. Toward him. We can't lift ourselves up to God.

So these are the reasons that we can't get back. That way. Now. This is most of the sermon. Now I want to simply tell you. If you're sitting here. And you say.

Okay. I agree. I can't get back to God. By my works. Now you tell me one more time. Please. How do I get back? What is Jesus saying? And in this verse.

29. Jesus answered them. And said. This is the work of God. Which means. This is the thing. God. Ask of you. The one thing. Not many. One. This is the work of God.

That you believe in him. Jesus. whom God has sent. Now. Let's try to understand that. Do you understand it?

First of all. Why does Jesus say. You've got to believe in him. Whom God sent. Why did he take care. To say it that way? Well.

Some people misunderstand. What believing in Jesus means. Maybe you do. When I talk to people. About the gospel. And say. What you need to do. Is trust in Jesus. Be a believer in Jesus.

To be saved. They think that means. That now. I go through my life. And every time. I have a little problem. That I trust Jesus for it. Then I've trusted Jesus.

I'm a believer. But that's not what that means. It's not trust in Jesus. Just for lots of things. You do need to do that later on. Once you're saved. But to get saved.

You need to trust in Jesus. For one particular thing. Now let me explain this to you. There's a lady by the side of a road. And her husband.

Has had a heart attack. And. She. Is trying to keep him alive. And on her cell phone.

She has called the medics. And it's not a story. That's very far from us. Is it? Because one of the orb. Capacitors. Recently had this happen to him.

And he's between life and death. Now she calls. The medics. The emergency. People on the phone. And they say. We're sending somebody.

Right now. They'll be there in two minutes. You just wait for the people. We're sending. We're sending. The doctors. Now when the doctors get there. She needs to trust in the doctors.

Doesn't she? To do what? To help her to garden better. At her home? Is she going to say. I'm so glad you're here. I want to talk to you about.

Child raising. I want to. Believe in you. And trust you. And lean on you. To help me with. How do I raise my children? Let's not trifle with God. The man is between life and death.

And she needs to trust in these medics. Who've come urgently. So her husband does not die. And she needs to trust him for one thing. Get his heart going again.

Bring him. Bring him back to heartbeat. That's the thing for which they were. You tell me. Sent. Okay. So Jesus says.

You must believe. In the one. Whom God. Sent. For the thing he sent him for. Now you know very well.

Everyone in here. Why did God send Jesus? For the son of man came into the world. To give his life. As a ransom for many.

To pay. To bear the brunt of your sin. The burden of your sin. On him. To take care of everything. That separates you from God.

To suffer the pain. And the penalty. And to do away with it. And to satisfy God. And to satisfy his justice. So that God says. Now that's enough. I'm satisfied.

Everything that kept. John or Jill. From me. You've done it. You've taken care of it. That's why God sent Jesus. Isn't it? This is Jesus' special role.

And Isaiah puts it to us this way. He says this. He says. But Jesus was wounded for our transgression. He was crushed.

For our iniquities. He was crushed. For our iniquities. And upon him. Fell the chastisement.

That brought us peace. And by his wounds. We are healed. Now let me tell you a story. About what that means. There was a lady who.

Was kind of self-righteous. She thought she was a Christian. And she was struggling with salvation. And for her. It was a lot of a matter of being good. And this. And one day.

She went up skiing. In the Swiss Alps. And. During this time. A spiritual struggle. And she was. Struggling with God. And. Not working things out too good.

Trying to get back by her own works. And. She got to the top. Of the Alps. She shouldn't have gone that high. Because she didn't know how to ski. She went to the highest station. And she got off. And she looked down.

And it was like this. And instead of. Going back. And getting on that lift. And going down. She decided. Well. I know. I can do it. So she got on her skis.

And one of them fell off one of her foot. And went all the way down the mountain. Now she has to trudge down the mountain. She takes the other ski off. And the.

And the snow was just icy. And she putting her feet down. And it's going. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. Now this. A little something like this. Happened to me one time.

In the French mountains. But it was my wife who lost her ski. And I had to go get it. And it took me a long time. And I was completely worn out.

When I got back. Walking up that mountain. It was unbelievable. Well this lady did that. And she can't drive. She drug herself. Into her house.

At the end of the evening. And her husband said. What happened to you? She told him. This lady who can do everything right.

I can manage it. I can do it. And a few days later. She's sitting in the service. At the Lord's Supper. And the man takes the bread.

And he. He tears it. And it was a good French crusty bread. And it cracked. Real loud. Everybody heard it. Just like that snow.

Of Miss Self-Righteous. I can make it down the mountain. And it cracked. And she realized. This is what happened to Jesus for me.

He was broken. The Son of God was. Wounded and crushed on a cross. And that's what saves me.

And it broke her heart. It broke her heart. She said to herself. You are so self-righteous.

How could I trifle with God? How could I think. That I'm going to make my way to God. Little me. With my little self-righteous works. And the Son of God.

Was crushed and cracked. On a cross. To pay for my wretched sins. And she understood it all.

And she said. Oh Lord. You be my Savior. Through what you've done on the cross. Have you seen.

That that's why Jesus was sent. For you. For you to be crushed. Crushed for you. That's really ugly.

And that's what it took to save me. And to save you. Now have you believed in him? And do you understand what believing is? Some people get their minds so wrapped around.

What it means to believe in Jesus. They don't know if they're up or down. And yet believing is so simple. If only God would open your mind this morning. To what it is. You would be amazed.

And maybe he will. Let's just say this. The Bible says. That Jesus comes to you. With a promise. Calvin said.

Jesus comes to you in the good news. Wrapped up in a promise. And believing. Means. That you trust him. To do what he promised. Let me give you an example.

John calls me one day. Because I'm really sick. My wife's not at home. She's on a trip. And I'm so sick. I can't drag myself out of bed. To take the kids to school. And John knows.

And he calls me up. And he says. I want to make you an offer brother. I'm going to take your kids to school. And pick them up for the next three days. You see. John came to me.

Over the phone. With a promise. Didn't he? And. Trusting in John. Believing John. Means.

Believing. That he'll do what he promised. And saying. Okay. Now. Saying okay. Is not doing much.

Is it? Some. One time. I was talking to somebody. About salvation. And I said it was by faith. And I told them what faith is. And they said. But. But that's a. That's too airy for me.

Faith. It's not doing anything. What do you mean? How could faith. Save me? Well look. I'm on the telephone with John. The power is not in the fact.

That I said okay. That's doing nothing. Saying okay. Is nothing. The power is in John. And his promise. The power.

Is in the fact. That John loved me. And behind every promise. There's love. Because somebody comes. And says. I want to do this for you. Right? The power is in John. And his love.

And his car. And ability to do this. And the okay. Is just. Opening the door. Right? But the okay. Is. Is big. Isn't it?

Because if there's a lot of power behind John. And a lot of love. Okay. Let's a big thing in. Doesn't it? And he coming to get my kids. And taking them. And I'm lying in my bed. Getting better. Right?

I'm not doing anything. John did it all. And faith is the okay. And that's all it is. Isn't that wonderful? Isn't that wonderful? Jesus says.

This is the one work. Today. This morning. That some of you need to do. Jesus has come to you. He is alive and living. He is Lord.

He is a Savior. Becomes Savior for you. Whoever you are. And he says to you. Here is my promise. Yes. By me.

Is announced to you. The forgiveness of sins. Take me. And you will be saved. Say yes to me. And my blood will cleanse you of all sin. This very moment.

You will be saved. Made right. And on your way to heaven. Forevermore. Believe. Say. Okay. Say yes.

To the promiser. The last thing I want to say to you is. Can you really be certain that if you do that. That you will be saved today. Well.

When we were planting the church in Grenoble. We often had to use. A meeting place. That we had to rent out from the mayor's office. It was a place where clubs and associations would have meetings.

And we'd want to do an evangelistic meeting. And we'd ask them to use this. And there was a certain way. That we always had to ask them. I always had to write us a letter. And I had to attach.

A copy. Of a thing that attested that we have insurance. So if anything happened to their room. We would be insured. So I would just. We use this room a lot of times.

And I did the same thing. I would just change the date on the letter. I always apply it in the same way. Exactly. Same letter. Same words.

Same insurance certificate. And you know what? Sometimes it worked. And sometimes it didn't. I don't know why.

Sometimes they said yes. You can use it. Sometimes they said no. Now. There's a way back to Jesus. But it's very different. Because everyone.

Because everyone. Whoever. Uses this way. Will be saved. Then. Read with me.

In verses 35 to 40. Jesus says. I am the bread of life. Whoever.

Comes to me. Shall not hunger. And whoever believes in me. Shall never thirst. But I said to you. That you have seen me. And yet do not believe. All that the father gives me. Will come to me.

And whoever. Comes to me. Whoever. Comes in this way. Of believing. Whoever. Comes to me. I will never. Cast out. For I have come down. From heaven.

Not to do my own will. But the will of him. Who sent me. And this is the will. Of him who sent me. That I should lose. Nothing of all. He has given me. But raise it up. On the last day. For this is the will.

Of the father. That everyone. Who looks on the son. And believes in him. Should have. Ever. Everlasting life. And I will raise him up. On the last day. Do you see.

God has set his seal. On Jesus. Jesus said it. God has set his seal. On Jesus. As a way of salvation. And that means. If you come to Jesus.

Today. Whoever you are. Whatever you've done. Whatever the state. Of your heart is. If you see. That you are a sinner. That you are far from God. That you are guilty. That you can do nothing.

To get back to God. But that Jesus has died. And done everything. That he loves you. And comes to you. With his promise. And says. Now. This is the work of God.

This is the work. God demands of you. That. You. Believe. On me. Sent by God. To save you. If you do this.

You. Will not be cast out. We sold our house. And this is the last thing. I'll say. This is the. Final illustration. We sold our house. Last.

Friday. A week ago. And. There's a young couple. That. Bought it. And we went. In front of the. Notary public. That's in France.

That's how we sell a house. Have to be. At a notary public. He's sort of like a lawyer. Big office. Plush office. And. They had their notary. And we had our notary.

And. Had tons of papers. And read all through them. And. All sorts of things. And their notary. Had some papers. And they had a seal on it.

And it was signed. And it showed that they had enough money. To buy that house. Wasn't. Some of it was from the bank. But the bank gave it to them. I think they probably had to pay a bit back.

Anyway. It was signed. And there was a seal on it. And that young man. Who was buying our house. In front of the notaries. And in front of the lawyers. And in front of the French law. He signed that paper.

And he said. I will promise. To give you this money. To buy your house. And you know what I said? Okay. And then I walked out.

And I gave him the keys. And I slept real well. Because I knew. That the money. Was going to be in my bank. The next day. Because the seal.

And the sign was on it. And in this passage. Jesus said. Don't work for the food. That perishes. But for the eternal life.

That the son of man will give you. Because on God. On him. God. Has set. His seal. God. God.

God. You. Will be saved. From eternal damnation. And brought into God's friendship. And everlasting life.

This morning. And right now. If you will. Join yourself.

To the Lord Jesus Christ. Who is in this place. And who loves you. And comes to you. With a promise. Saying this is what God wants.

That you. Believe. In me. May God bless you. And enable you to do it. Even today. Even today. Let's pray.

Holy Father. I pray that you would please. Penetrate. The hearts. And the ears. Of. Sinners. Who are in this room.

Right now. The Holy Spirit. You would show. That you are God. Indeed. That you rule over the hearts. Of men. That you have the key.

To every door. And that you would. Shed your light. The light of Jesus Christ. And his glory. Into the hearts.

Of sinners. Now. We have. Sung. And we have. Plead. With sinners. To come. And Lord. We. Are powerless.

To bring this about. But you. Have all power. And what is impossible. With men. Is. Is. Entirely. Possible. For you.

Nothing. Is too hard. Lord. I pray. That you would glorify. Your grace. And your mercy. That you would glorify. Your son. In saving.

Sinners. This morning. That you would. Show us. And that you would. Convince us. One and all. That you are God. There is no other.

And that you. Save. Sinners. That you would. Change. Our minds. That you would. Change. Their minds. That you would. Bring. And harvest.

Glory. To yourself. And the salvation. Of. Those who are weak. And weary. And heavily burdened. And in distress. And guilty.

And rebellious. Before you. That you would. Show. That you are full of grace. And full of truth. Able to save. Completely. All those. Who put their trust. Their hope in you.

It's for Jesus sake. I pray. Amen. Amen.
